There are no changes to national guidance on the management of suspected meningococcal disease at present.
Antibiotic chemoprophylaxis is being offered to:
-All students who live on the Canterbury campus
-All staff who live or work in the affected Halls of Residence
-Anyone who attended Club Chemistry on 5th, 6th and 7th March
-Close contacts who have been identified by UKHSA
If an individual has returned home from the University of Canterbury and not already received antibiotics through UKHSA coordinated clinics, a patient may request this with us, we will ask for proof of residency at the university. Please complete an online form to request. If you are attending other universities antibiotics cannot be offered.
Please note Meningitis B vaccinations were introduced in 2015, we can only provide a Meningitis B vaccination if a patient missed their initial 8 week, 12 week and 1 year vaccine and is under the age of 2 yrs.
